Von der Bühne ins Behandlungszimmer
2025 was the “Year of the Voice,” making December the perfect moment for our end-of-year conversation with Dr. Philipp Mathmann. A senior physician in phoniatrics and pediatric audiology, he treats voice disorders—and as a professional countertenor, he also performs on international opera stages. In the interview, he explains why there are no “good” or “bad” voices, why throat lozenges are often overrated, and how we can care for our voices. After all, the voice is a central part of our identity.
Doctor by Calling – Opera Singer by Passion: An Interview with Philipp Mathmann
He performs at the very highest level—both in music and in medicine: Philipp Mathmann is not only a senior consultant at the UKM, but also a professional countertenor who appears in renowned concert halls. Almost every day, he rehearses in the clinic chapel on the Albert Schweitzer Campus—and this year, he is singing the UKM Christmas carol.
